Trans Perspectives on Masculinity Study

You are invited to participate in a research study designed to collect information from female bodied, masculine identified 18 -25 year old individuals about their life experiences of masculinity in today’s society.

Background: Little statistical and survey information currently exists on individuals who self identify as transmasculine, transgender, transsexual male, male, gender-diverse, genderqueer and/or any identity that falls within the masculine spectrum. Therefore, your input is extremely important to this study, which will establish data on the experiences of U.S. residents who are female-bodied, but self-identify as being masculine. The data will also serve as the basis for my doctoral dissertation in social work at New York University.

Procedures: If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to complete a survey. This web-based survey is accessed by a web link that you may access at any time from any computer with internet connection. It consists of questions about your experiences of masculinity and the ways in which these experiences impact various aspects of your life. The survey should take about 20 minutes to complete.

Risks and Benefits of Participating in the Study: We do not anticipate any risks for you participating in this study. There are no direct benefits to participating in this study. However, as a young person who identifies as masculine your input is extremely important and will inform social work practice and assure that experiences like yours are better understood.

Voluntary Nature of Participation: Your participation in this study is voluntary. Your decision whether or not to participate will not affect your current or future relations with your health center, community center, resource group, or other cooperating entities. If you decide to participate, you may withdraw from the study at any time without penalty. Your consent to participate is implied by your completing and submitting the survey.

Confidentiality: By submitting your responses through this web-based survey, your email address cannot be linked and your identity cannot be tracked. Your name will not be recorded at any time. To ensure your confidentiality online, the web-based survey is accessed online from a hyperlink to Survey Monkey’s secure website and all date will be stored on a secure server.
